Well I’ve heard that the AC in these trucks suck, but what should the temperature difference be between the outside and incoming air? The reason I ask is because my AC acts very strangely. It gets very cold parked at idle after a min or two, but stop and go = almost no AC and highway speed = slightly cold enough to keep things nice so long as you run it on max constantly. This is 85* sunny weather by the way. The AC completely failed shortly after it started to get warm out so I don’t know if this is the way of things or if it’s still broke. I took it in yesterday but being it was only 70* or so they didn’t find anything wrong.
I have noticed something similar. My ac gets colder in idle or in park then when I am moving down the road. My other trucks in the past has been colder moving or in stop and go. Dont know why?
Mine will freeze me out on recirc, which is the only way I run mine. It gets hot here in Omaha during the summer. I have had some issues with my truck, but not with the hvac.
Sounds like you have a leak. Mine was doing the exact same thing and I found a leak in the high pressure line between the compressor and condensor. It was leaking under the clamp that holds the dryer. The line only cost $20.
I have seen some actually freeze up at Idle when low on freon under certain humidity and temperature conditions. Compressor front seal leaks are very common on the Fords. So common that Ford now wants us to just replace the front seals where for EONS we were replacing the whole compressor. Money saving is now the game it seems.
One thing I recommend to all people who have EATC in thier F150 is NOT to use Auto. Use face (vent) and AC on and recirc on set to 60. Also verify that the recirc door is open if in doubt. When in Auto the control head may decide to leave the recirc door closed whether you have it turned on or not. You will think it is recirculating when it isnt at all. That is why I dont recommend using Auto for air conditioning use, especially when extreme heat and or humid conditions exist.

Well I put a thermometer in the vent and have been watching it the last few days. Running on max I get about 50* at the vents. It randomly drops to about 60*, but mostly during accelerating and stopping. After driving for awhile it can get near 40*, but still swings up to 60* randomly. Maybe it’s all in my head because 60* is still cooling, could be better though.
After all these years Ford doesnt seem interested in making it any better either. If you dont feel like its working right take it in and have it checked. But even the technical hotline experts will tell you that 45 is about the best you get in hot weather with that system. I have an 04 and it sucks compared to my 01 and my 99 of the past.
Keep in mind you have climate control, so it's going to try and continue to keep the air at 60 deg, which is it's lowest point. So it does not seem strange to me that what you are seeing a temp swing. I have no complaints with mine. Here in Se Fla it cools fine. What I did learn is to put it in recirculate first to do a quicker cool down then switch it to outside air when cooled down.
I assume it's normal to hear what sounds like a pressure leak after using the AC for some time, especially on a hot day and parking it? I always notice this on mine and have noticed the same on other vehicles. It sounds like some kind of pressure release of some sort. The AC works fine, but after parking it and walking to the front of the truck I can hear a pssssssssssss sound..lol. Best I can describe it.

You might just be on to something. I have had it set at 60* constantly and the sensor is close to the vent. I’m going to see if I can fool the sensor.
Basicly, either end of the extremes of the temp control is max cold or max hot. In other words it will blow as cold as the system will blow as long as it is set at 60. Anything above that is regulated by the in car sensor. at the other extreme would net the same result for heat.
