I was told by the dealer when getting it flushed it did not have a filter in the tranny, but on here people say they do.Is there a filter in this tranny?
I'm not sure if we are all talking about the same transmission. My 02 Mountaineer 4.0 with the 5 speed auto AWD has 95000 miles and so far no problems. It had 34000 when I bought it in 04. No wheel bearing changes, no brake rotor changes, only regular oil changes, one brake pad change, and new plugs/wires.
My previously owned 98 explorer 5.0 had the 4 speed auto with awd, and I sold it at 106000 miles with no problems.
Just got mine (2002) back (for a 2nd time). $3K for a rebuild transmission.
$2500 prior for a T/C and wheel bearings (just the front right side) replacement.
I'm not too happy, as the 96, 2 97's and 98 explorers I had gave me ZERO problems.
