I've got a 5.4L 2000 Expedition with 25K miles. In analyzing the limited info at the online store, both the Super and Diablo seem to produce very comparable HP/Torque increases. Fundamentally, what are the differences between the two chips? Which of the two chips will perform better in plain jane everyday driving? I don't do any heavy towing so I really just want to improve overall throttle response without seriously affecting driveablilty.
Are there any "side effects" resulting from the use of either chip? Do additional miles have any affect on the chip's performance?
Buzzard: There are only so many operating parameters that can be changed on a naturally aspirated gas engine. So in the same way that a Chevy is a truck and a Ford is a truck, and there are only so many ways to build a truck, Ford and Chevy must be similar. The chips, however, are very different in physical characteristics. The Superchip sticks out of your ecu about 3/8ths of an inch. The Diablo fits almost entirely inside the ecu. This is useful info due to the fact that there is a lip on the bracket holding your ecu in place. This lip, through vibration, will attempt to work itself between anything sticking out of your ecu and the ecu. If one contact loses contact, your vehicle will stop running. There are no long term or short term ill effects of chipping a vehicle. The only negative is that you should run premium fuel after chipping. This is due to the timing being advanced for premium to make the horsepower. Your mileage should remain the same, some cases gain maybe 1 mpg. Increased mileage is not a reason to add a chip. It will add 27hp and 40 ft/lb torque to your engine.
Thanks

This is just the post I've been looking for. What if any is the difference between the two chips? I'm looking at the V10 chip. Superchips is almost twice as much. Thanks!
V10Man:As dealers, we cannot say that the 2 products are very much alike. Again, realizing the fact that a Ford and Chevy are very similar trucks, due to the fact that there is only one way to build a truck, with 4 wheels and a cab, we can safely say that Ford and Chevy trucks are very similar. Check the hp and torque gains with both products, and make your decision. I am not sure of where the V10 chip is half the price. Here at the online store the PSD and the V10 chips are the same price. Both do carry the same warranty.
Thanks

Years ago I worked at a computer store selling PCs. I was an expert on the systems I sold. I knew the hardware, I knew the software and I knew how to program PCs. Every now and then someone would come in and pump me with questions about which choices and options were best for their needs. I'd spend time answering their questions so they could make an informed choice. Then they would proceed to tell me they were going down the street to buy it for less. The store down the street hired teenagers who knew virtually nothing about the systems they sold (except they could tell you about the games available). It was insulting to have my time and income robbed that way.
Ken: I totally agree with you. I have had several calls from individuals that have purchased performance products elsewhere a bit cheaper, then called my tech line for help at 9 P.M. I have grown a bit impatient with these types of folks. I simply tell them to call the dealer that sold them the product. As anyone that has purchased from this site knows, my tech line is answered almost 18 hours a day.
My line rings in
1. The shop
2. My home
3. If the machine picks up, I return calls from a mobile.
And yes, we have talked folks through installations at 11:00 P.M. We understand that not everyone works on their vehicles between 9 A.M. and 5 P.M. It is very frustrating to have a new toy and no tech help available.
Our motto is: Price is forgotten long after service, or lack of, is remembered.
Thanks
