Shop to replace my engine - Colorado?

I'm getting some feedback that my regular shop's Estimate of $2100 for the *Labor only* on replacing my engine is too much. Does anyone have a recommendation of a shop someplace in Colorado that may have better pricing?

I look at it this way...you get what you pay for. Just because some joker in Mississippi can get it done for 1200 don't mean you can get it done for that is Colorado. I don't always believe what people on this forum say they pay for engines. I think sometimes the truth is a little exaggerated, king of like hunting and fishing stories. My take on it, if you know the guy and can trust him, pay him what he wants if it’s reasonable and you can afford it. Getting things real cheap usually means “fast and dirty”.

I agree with your statement...and I do seek out some form of "integrity" in the folks I allow to work on my cars.....however, I have sorta felt like the pricing from this shop has gone from "great deal" when I started using them 4 years ago (I could get a whole list of stuff completed for about $500) to "not so greeat a deal" (last job was replacing the Intake manifold and water pump...about $600 for labor only)..... But...I have nothing to compare any of that to, other than the emptiness of my wallet.....lol

I just want to make sure I am not needlessly wasting cash in my current paniced state.....

when i worked at a garage just out of high school we did engine swaps (carbed) for 300 bucks. i still do them for that here now but try to limit what i do for others cuzz im not in that bizz. a good shop should have that job done in a day if they have ALL the rite parts. it can be done awhile back i pulled 2 and intalled one in a day so it isnt that hard

$2100.00 labor is a bit much in n. central North Carolina, but could be in line in Colorado. Finding a shop that will take on an engine swap is getting hard to come by as well.

Were that figuring rebuilding the engine, pulling and installing in that price?

The actual quote was $2125 and that would be me providing the new engine...they would swap out the outer components, Intake, valve covers, Alt, Steering pump, Water pump, etc....and install the new engine once all that junk was on it...adding the warning that my new clutch (August 2006) might have to be replaced as well if soaked with oil..... I have a couple of shops down in Denver to check with on Monday and I'm always taking recommendations....I thought their estimate seemed high, but they use one of those computer program estimator dealies...perhaps there is another option for "engine swap" rather than seperate swap prices for each outer component...either way, seems the concensus is it is a high number, I can always tell them what lower estimates, if any, I find and see if they would reconsider.

For the price of a long block and shipping. Plus labor to swap everything over, install and tune it. Would be about right for Alaska. And we are considered a 3rd world country that the States just happen to own. Really that price is about right for here.
