SEXY temp guage question!

Hey, how else am I going to make you look at a question about a temerature guage?? LOL I have no temp guage function in my 55. Original guage hooked to 351W. I can't tell if they have been refurbed or not, I don't think so. IMHO, it has been reading on the cool side lately, now it doesn't move off the peg. Single wire temp sending unit. I shorted the sending wire to ground with key on, which should peg the guage to hot side, i think, nothing. No voltage detected on the sending wire. OHM meters baffle and perplex me, but with it set to 2K OHM's I get a reading of .235 at the sending unit. Thanks, Jim

There should be an allowable amount or range of resistance for the sending unit and the guage however I am not sure what those are.

For the cost I would start with replacing the sending unit and see if that is the problem (most likely is) and if it is not the sending unit and all wiring is done correctly, the guage must be faulty.

No temp

Put your OHM meter on the temp sensor wire connection( temp wire off during check) and other end to ground. On a cold engine start and see if the resistance changes as the engine heats up.Pull wire off of temp sensor and guage. Put one end of OHM meter on each wire. You should see meter movement to prove wire ok. I assume wire connections on both ends of wire good. The only remaining item is the guage unless there are other parts to the circuit. See wiring diagram for your model and year to be sure. Have a great day, chuck
