I remember getting a link from someone here once about ford remanufactured engine services....and the prices were great. Dose anyone know what this is/was?
Thanks for the llinks....Rebuilt-auto-engines looks close to what I was seeking....I could've sworn I used to have a site bookmarked that was an actual "Ford" company in Detroit or somewhere selling rebuilt engines at similar prices.....perhaps it was the guys at the shop that showed me that place....
How does $2100 sound for replacing this beast? That is what the shop estimated for removing the old engine, transfering my Intake manifolds, pumps and what not...and re-installing....
Nope...that is just labor...the engine is my seperate bill on top of that. But....they have been a dependable shop....perhaps they are not used to this sort of thing? It puts me in a real bind as they are pretty much the only folks I've been able to find that even seem willing to work on the old cars.....most folks don't seem to even understand anything older than a 1990......
Thats like 20+ hours to install a new engine and bits. IMO waaayyy to much $$$. I think the hourly rate here is like $86. I can see 5 hrs and thats taking your time with a lunch break too. Are they doing any detail work on the engine like painting, polishing etc..?? I'd look for a few freinds to help and try it yourself if you have the time. That's a lot of money plus the cost of the engine on top.
Well, at least the truck is still drivable, despite the constant out-flow of oil.....
I'm going to look around for another shop here in the Denver / boulder / fort Collins area....ad perhaps go to my shop and explain that their price was greeting with comments like, "Smoking Crack," and "WAAAAAAAAYYYY too much...." lol and see if they reconsider.
I know when I ask prices for stuff, they just punch up a bunch of jobs on the computer program and it spits out a price.....I think they charged me $600 to replace the Water pump and Intake Manifold (again, Labor only).....too much?
I would love it if I could do it myslef.....but I have no garage or proper workspace in which to do the work, I do not own an enigne lift and, sadly, I don't really have any firends that could or would help.... (Most have gone off to matrimony/baby land....and none own old cars....thus none can even understand why I would do the work myself......now I'm depressed.....lol)
Ouch yea that's not much of a deal either. I'd try looking elsewhere. Maybe try over at www.fordfe.com Someone there might know a good guy or shop that can help. Yea it sucks to have no garage...I don't have one either. The lift and some tools you need can be rented tho. BTW in a few years your "married with kids" friends will be screaming to get away from the wife and give you a hand.
There is a guy named Rob McQuarie who owns Blue Oval Performance in Englewood Co. He might know someone who can help. I'll look for his website addy....
