I was recently rear ended and it looks like I'm going to be swapping out the bed. I know the mechanical part should be easy but I'm not really that mechanically inclined. Frankly I could screw up a train wreck.
6 bolts hold it to the frame, 3 bolts at each fuel tank filler, etc.
The question I have is about the electrical to the tanks, taillights, and license plate light. Do these all come to the bed in one bundle so I can make the splices in one spot?
Any other pitfalls to this that I need to look out for?
The harnesses do have plugs/connectors behind rear bumper. but if you remove lights you can remove harnesses. With no problem . Should be a direct swap . As for the tanks . They may be in same harness but should run down frame and not be connected to bed. Other than simple clip may be.
3 guys should do it. 4 would be easier. I have jack beds up my self and used planks and props and drove out from under it.

As for pit falls Just spray them bolt couple time before you work on it. They can be a pain even when not rusted.

GOOD LUCK LOST
I have an 88 i just swapped beds on in Dec. The hardest part is getting the old bed bolts off. I grind mine off and have heard of some people using a torch ,but I neither have one nor am I good with one so as to not burn holes in the bed. Of course your old one is junk so no worries there. I was mainly having to be careful on prior beds because they were to be removed then re-used. As for the wiring. Remove tail lights and fish wires back out the holes in bed. hang down and then go about removing the bed bolts and fuel fillers and just about everything else is ready. Reconnect in reverse order. I never had to splice anything.
