Smile Alt. problem???

Hi, I'm hoping 1 of you elec. wizards can give me some ideas on what else to look for. My 95 F250 4x4 PSD has run well since I bought it last Nov. I've changed the thermostat,CPS and rear brakes. Now that the heat has hit and I'm running the AC the batt. is going flat (both of them) is it possible for the alt. to die slowly? With the AC off the voltage seems about right but at idle or with the AC on it drops to about 10V. Could this be a crapped out Voltage reg.?? ,bad ground??fuse?
I'm hoping that this is just a bad allignment of the planets as I've heard how much this alt. costs.
Thanks for any ideas I do appreciate any possible advice!!

What is the voltage at idle? With everything off it should be around 14 volts.

At idle with the batts. freshly charged it's about 10.5 v if I rev it to 1000 or more it goes to 13.3. Is it possible for the alt. to slowly fail and/or weaken? I thought they would completely quit. Also, would you happen to know if it has a built in reg.( I'm assuming it does)

Freshly charged batteries should be at least 12.75 V not 10.5.
Sounds more likely you have bad batteries or bad connections.
Yes your regulator is built in.

Yes, 10.5v sounds like a dead cell in one of the batteries. You could take them to the store and get their health checked by their machine, or take them out and charge them seperately and see of one of them is good and one of them is bad. If you have the money, it would be best to replace them in pairs for best life of both batteries.

Sorry, I scr...d up., I checked the idle voltage right after I started the truck (I think the GP's were still on) Voltage after about 5 minutes is approx.12.5 V . As a doublecheck I installed 2 new batts. that I had sitting here waiting for a different application and the volts were about the same. I'm going to pickup a set of brushes today and hopfully that will hold me until I get back from Texas.I don't like to take a chance on a breakdown on a 2500 mile trip but I don't have time to mess around with this right now. I'll take some tools and 2 spare batts. and replace the alt. along the way if I have to. Thanks for the help

12.5 volts at idle is still not right. Ok for the batteries, but not the charging system.
