single phase 220v wiring tips?

Surely somebody here has some tips. My 40yr old compressor finally died. I bought a new one (12.5CFM @ 100#, and 60 gal tank), but I need to wire it up to my old 220v dryer plug.

What's the wiring color coding? I could hook it up myself, but it would be better if I hooked it up so that if an electrician showed up he wouldn't get electrocuted.

just a standard 220 plug is all ya need, the cord should have only three wires to it.
black being one hot wire , white the second hot wire, and green left over for the ground.

Standard plug with black/hot red/hot white/neutral cooper/green ground. Be careful 220 is unforgiving, unlike 110/120. good luck

well chet get a multi meter and find out which ones are hot, hot, neutral and ground on that dryer plug. You only need the hot and the hot wires for the compressor and maybe the ground if the motor calls for it. The neutral is not used. My new Campell Hausfeld only uses the hot wires and says not to use the ground or neutral it was super simple.
