Question second tank

Does anyone know of a way to have an auxillary tank in your bed and run it straight to the engine so you can run off road diesel in your engine without it going into the main tank. I dont want to get pulled and have my tank dipped and get busted.

Have not seen it done, but they can also test your tail pipe for off road diesel.

Thats interesting. What would give you away in the tailpipe. A friend of mine has a 92 f-350 with the aux tank plumbed into the main line and has been know to run off road diesel in the truck.

The red dye can leave a residue in the tail pipe as not all fuel is burned. Just depends how deep the inspector wants to check. Some just dip the tank and move on.

or if they check the aux tank and notice that there is not an external pump on it for pumping fuel like into a tractor, i am sure they would put 2 and 2 together.

the amount of money you would save on the non-taxed fuel in no way would compensate for the amount you soent on the tank unless you are also looking for extended driving range without refueling. which unless you are pulling, doing some heavy backwoods exploring, or got money to spend, there is no point in doing.

I understand, you drive 1500 miles and you would rather not pay $35 for using the public roadways.

mmm...you would save oh...off the top of my head. a little less then 30 dollars every 1500 miles using about 20mpg for driving.

now saying to install a tank like that would cost about 1000 dollars.....how many miles do you think you would have to go to save money?
