general chip questions

LAST EDITED ON 15-Jun-01 AT 00:24 AM (EST)[p]I have a 00 explorer sport 4wd and have been researching mods lately and am ready to do stuff starting this summer. I have a couple of questions

Are computer chips legal when time rolls around for emissions tests or can they just be taken off for tests?

Also, are there any negative results from a chip, after long-term use. Any damage of any sort?

And would it be a better idea to get it installed first and then later reprogram it, or to get it after some mods are done?

Any problmes with the 4WD system and a chip?

thanks

The chip will not adversly affect the longevity of your vehicle. The chip will need to be removed before the dealer attaches their diagnostic equipment to your vehicle, the chip will cause faulty codes. All vehicles are different, depending on the mods, the chip should not be removed to pass emission standards.
