ok so imtrying to take the bolts off my old truck so i can throw the fifth wheel hitch onthat onto my ford. i have soaked these things in pb blaster for 4 days so far. they wont budge. i used the big ol' compressor at work and a breaker bar. cant break these things. can someone give me some suggestions? THANKS AHEAD!
Kroil has worked for me in the past, or you might need to try a smoke wrench. PB blaster will burn, so let it dry before you put the torch to the bolts.
Conversely, you could pick up new bolts and just drill the heads off the old ones. It depends on how much more time your willing spend on it.
How big are the bolts? 1/2 inch, maybe 9/16 inch diameter?
Grade eight bolts are tough, but not that tough. If you have a breaker bar and socket up to the task, tighten the bolts down until they snap off.
Or put a bit of heat on the fastener, and use the breaker bar, and a big ol piece of pipe to either loosten, or break the bolts right off.
With enough leverage, even grade 8 hardware pops right off.
Personally, I would use some sort of cut off wheel before I took a torch to the bolts. I am a little clumsy, and would not want to risk damaging my hitch. Obviously the guys are a much better with the "hot wrench" than I am, never comes out clean enough for me, and I always seem to catch something on fire after soaking the bolts with that much oil.
