Tow/Haul button

The OD button on the end of the gear selector doesn't work. The tiny wire coming from the steering column has broken off at the base where it leaves the column and enters the selector. How do I get the cap off the selector at the button or do I remove the square little blug and try to run a new wire? Pics would be super helpful.

Thanks

Remove the sterring column cover, remove the pin holding the shifter, pry the plastic end cap off (it has three? small tabs). I replaced the center portion of my wires with some spare wire and a couple of wire nuts. My wire's were worn through.
