Sorry [but happy] to report, the truck is gone. I traded it in. I had too, putting way too much money in it. 1 dmf in Aug '05, another in mar '07. countless trips to repair shops[ I am no mechanic]. The last straw was 2 full tanks of gas, would not run, would not let me switch tanks, had it towed to a ford dealership,Thankfully, I knew all 3 diesel techs, put on a new fuel indicator switch, wich allowed me to switch tanks. The tech told me he told service dept. to not charge me for all the time he had in it, because he could not say for sure it is fixed. I told him I was thinking about getting rid of it, he said that sounded like a good idea to him. Also told me someone had previously altered the front fuel spout & pipe. Told me probably would need that fixed before it would be exactly right. The bill was a lot less than I was quoted. After all this, I figured the best thing to do was cut my losses and get rid of it. It was running fine when I traded it in. I probably fixed everything that was wrong B4 I got rid of it. I did stay in the Ford family though, I got a 1988 f350 crew cab dually 2wd with a 460. Personally for me too expensive to have a diesel. the last year or so, spent more time working on it than driving it.
sounds like the truck is just worn out like all old cars and trucks get. well you shouldnt have much problems with the 460 its one of fords best gas engines i think. you wont get the mileage as you would a diesel, but other than that you will have plenty of power
Sounds like my Bronco. The 429 in it will out pull everything but my 87 diesel one ton. Of course 6 miles to a gallon suck when you are used to twelve.
I had (have) a 92 F250 4x4 with the 460 in it. I used to get 13.5 mpg on winter blend gas and 16 mpg on summer blend gas on a 200 mi trip on cruise control at 2000 rpm.
Mileage was not the problem, when the E4OD went out for the second time I could not see putting $2300 into fixing it. I bought my '86 F250 4X4 with the 6.9 for $2000. The T19 might leak a bit but it is not going to leave me stranded and cost $2300 to fix.
yes diesels are more expensive to fix if your not able to work on them your selve
