2000 7.3 with 4" exh, filter mod, DP 6 pos chip 135,000 miles. While driving under normal conditions, the truck seems to very quickly loose power, but not rpms. It does not seem like a transmission slip,as it is too sudden to happen and then correct itself and the rpms don't spike. Sometimes it happens on initial start up driving, and other times it happens while driving down the road after an hour.
I know what it feels like when the chip is not making good connection (Because mine fell out once), and it doesn't seem to be that. If I flip the chip down on power settings, the sound of the engine changes along with the power. When this happens, the engine sound does not change, RPMs don't drop, just seems 50% or more of the power goes away and then quickly comes back.
I am thinking maybe TPS or Injector control module, but I would think you would hear a change in engine sound with these problems.
i experienced something similar to this in my wifes excursion, which had a relatively new CPS in it at the time. After many searches and attempts at curing it via differnt means, Ford coincidentally dropped the price of their CPS's to $15.00 +/-. I bought two for the heck of it just to see if they were any better than the old ones in my truck and her excursion. After i replaced hers, the power surging and likewise intermittent "de-powering" went away and has not been back since. For $15, it's worth a try in my book. Just my .02
