im referring to the shock for when your pulling something. I have one of my truck that has cylinders on it and it cushions the pull, and the tongue of the hitch pulls out so its easier to hook up.
I've always heard them called "shock bumpers" or "ag hitch bumpers". You're right, rmalott... they are to help dampen the jolts when pulling a trailer. I've seen them made by many different companies. Some of the more elaborate ones have a hydraulic tank and pump to really take the shocks away.
