Cool Shaddy Dealership

My dad came into town to see me yesterday he drives a 2003 f-250 6.0 and i drive a f350 7.3 2002. Well he calls me as he's leaving town maybe 10 miles out and says his truck is surging and smoking really bad and black. I told him stop don't move it don't drive it and i would be right there. Well he called his dealership and they said probably the EGR valve which i offered to replace, because i knew he had the fuel filters changed last week. He insisted on taking it to a dealership for warranty work, but with my experience with the dealerships around here i told him we shouldn't. We still went. The first place said they might be able to get to it in 3 or 4 days and when we told them the symptoms and possible problem they all looked at us like they didn't know what an egr was or why the truck did that. so we went closer to austin and into the lions den. They said sure we can get to it tommarrow to look at it. well they called this morning telling me they needed to change the fuel filter and air filter and it would cost 200+ dollars, and i told them no that wasn't the problem that the fuel filter had been changed last week then he told me that they needed a fuel sample and that the o-ring would be bad. I told them no way but my father said it needed to be done, after my strong conviction that this was wrong, (they hadn't even used the computer to diagnose the problem) my father called his mechanic who told him they were trying to get money out of him which i agree, well this dealership was called back and my father told them NOT to proceed they needed to check other problems first. They told him the mechanic had already started and it was too late...... i just don't believe that this was right, and i want to do something about it... anyone out there that can help?

What dealership are you at in Austin. There are only a couple that are worth anything to start with. If you specifically told them NOT to proceed then it is on THEIR dime not yours. They DON"T know what they're doing and ONLY want your money.

It is Lief Johnsons Truck City Ford in Buda, Tx and now they are saying they checked and cleaned the EGR valve first but the first time they called us they said that they had to check and test the FUEL first, who the hell checks the diesel and what are they going to do send it to the lab? they are many more ways to check it without going to the fuel filter... I knew i should have stepped up and called bull**** but i let my dad handle this and now i am so ticked off that it's my turn and hell hath no fury like me when you mess with my family.... so please any more info is very helpful also maybe some bail money when i get done with these thieves

Damnit.. You should have got ahold of me.. I would have warned you about Lief.. Buda, TX is a hell hole! I could have towed him up to Lampasas and got it fixed right then and there.. I am good friends with the Diesel Mech up there and he's a fast lil turd!

Don't let them rape you too much! That's b/s what they came up with.. What happens when you end up in Buda..

testing the fuel is a regular practice when the truck is surging. They are checking for seperation in the fuel if they let it sit in glass they can see if there is water or other contaminates in the fuel. however they do not need to replace the fuel filter as it will not damage the o ring if they preformed it correctly . Did you check the restriction guage before it went in? if the gauge did not indicate a change was needed they they are in the wrong. what exactly are they charging you with?

Now, I'm not trying to defend anyone, but Ford wants us to fill out a performance diagnostic guide whenever we get a driveability problem. A few of us have shortcuts that we use to get to the issue quicker (not approved by ford). Step one--viual engine/chassis inspection (leaks, unplugged wires, etc) step two--sufficient clean fuel (includes cetane check) step three--check engine oil level (contaminates, correct viscosity, maintenance interval) then on to computer issues. So, if the techs aren't very experienced, they might be following the performance diagnostic guide. For me, forget the guide, egr-turbo.Or icp sensor/wires.

I used to always say a good mechanic doesn't need a computer to tell you whats wrong... atleast for sure not back in the old days... i mean hell i still have to think it out when i work on small engines and dirtbikes and etc.... oh well such is the way the world turns...

they should have tested fuel pressure on the upper filter assy and that would have told them if filters were plugged of it had low pressure...sounds to me the tech is throwing parts at it on your dollar....

tell them you're going to contact the local news station and tell them how they tried to screw you. some cities news stations gladly throw bad businesses on their evening news.
