I stretched out my winshield replacement too far, and the water has finally fried the GEM and maybe the fuse block. Has anyone ever done their own replacement on the GEM? Is it just unplugging and removing the old, and plugging up the new? Also, I can't find a GEM listed anywhere at parts places online, any idea where to find other than a dealer & about how much?
Since a few looked and no one answered, I went ahead and pulled the fuse block out. Not a huge job, if you need pointers email me. Found corrosion around the pins on the lower end and cleaned them and used T-9 on all the connectors. There's a circuit board that is encased in a black plastic cover that connects directly to the back of the fuse block that I believe is the GEM. I see a white box mounted on my firewall behind the brake pedal, too. Which is the GEM?
The GEM fuse (15 amp) blows when the key is turned to the start position. The only other fuse that was blown was the Main Light/Fog light (5 amp). Replaced it and it hasn't blown again.
Question: How do I isolate what's causing the GEM fuse to go? The pins on the GEM looked good, no corrosion, etc. the board itself appeard fine, no noticeable burned connections or components.
Does this point to the GEM or something with the fuseblock?? Please help.
