Regeneration?

When does it happen on the 08' 6.4?
Is it per mileage?
How do I know when it happens/happened?
How long does it last?
Can I drive it while it regenerates?

While I dont own a 6.4 i have read a bunch on it. From my understanding yes you can drive while it does it. It should happen around every 1000 to 1500 miles, depending on the fuel. I hear it only lasts a few min, and you can tell by the sound of the exhaust and it might vibrate a little. someone who owns one and has gone through it will be along shortly, lol, just to set the record straight.

You can drive during regen. The amount that it occurs depends on your driving habbits. Mine regens once every tank to tank and a half, bout every 600-900 miles. I drive purely on the highway with no stop and go driving. If you're driving in the city where you're changing you speed and stoping constantly it will regen more often because of the soot produced. Can be as oftern as every 100 miles. Hope this helped.

The regen process is accompanied with the piazzo starter igniting. The striking can be heard above the highway noises. I have had three regens in the last 2800 miles.
Nothing to be alarmed about, in my opinion. Thbe first regen I had stopped and the engine started racing up to about 1100 PRMs, and lasted about 3-5 minutes, then stopped, and dropped back down to idle RPMs. I got out and walked around back to the exhaust and the heat expelled was tremendous.

The heat produced by the regen is what worries me. I'm driving in tall grass a lot and really don't feel like lighting my ranch on fire. I even gutted the cat out on my old 03' F-350 V-10 to keep it from heating up.

The DPF is the only thing I hate about my 08. It causes too much back pressure killing you mileage, glows red hot turning the underside of your truck into a match, and hardly anybody understands how they work.

I'm gonna be strait piping mine soon enough, and don't give a d@#m if I get a ticket.

That is a very serious concern.

The backpressure caused by the DPF is not that high. There was very little difference in power on the dyno running with or without the DPF. Mileage was also very close.

One person was able to strait pipe his 08 from the turbo back and not get any check engine lights. He said a 2-3 mpg increase, and a noticible increase in power.

I only removed the DPF, not the cat.

Diesel Particulate Filter, in the exhuast system to trap all soot.
