I already mentioned this in the "Prepare the Borders" thread, but I thought this worthy of its own thread so that folks who might venture in here but didn't see the other thread might see this one. So here goes:
As many of you know, Fred (BigF350) our Aussie Admin is currently on our shores and is on a bus tour of the west. He's due back in San Francisco on Sunday July 1st.
We would like to have a dinner meet with everyone who can make it on that day. Unfortunately his bus isn't due to return till 7:00 PM so the timing isn't that great, it could make a late night on a work night for people who have a ways to go to get home for work on Monday morning.
Reply to this thread and let us know if this can work for you. What we have in mind is to meet at the Fisherman's Wharf ship's wheel sign at pier 45, across Taylor street from Tarantino's restaurant, and then pick a nearby place to eat.
Don't miss this great opportunity to meet one of FTE's adminstrators! You'll have to fly to Australia to get another chance!
Sadly, I cannot attend. I have a 5:00am conference call on Monday with some folks in Ireland and Israel. I'm learning to really dislike this global economy stuff.
As stated before, Dan, I am scheduled to work on Sunday and Monday that week. There is no way that I can ask for it off, as it would cause an overtime. This would entail a strong justification from me, and I'm afraid that the fire dept wouldn't understand my deep desire to meet up with Fred from the land down under.
I was hoping that I could find a way to meet up with him up here in Nothern Nevada, but I didn't receive a PM from him giving me his itinerary. Unfortunately, I'm sure that he is internet challenged, being on the road and all.
I would have really enjoyed a visit from Fred. I think it would have been a good stop, to take a gander at the Eastern Slopes of the Sierra Mountains. Oh well, hopefully next time.
Wish I could make San Fran. To be honest, I have never been to Fisherman's Warf, and it would have been a great experience for me as well.
Give Fred my well wishes, and heart felt welcome, from this native born Californian.
PS. Ask Fred for me if the toilets down under really do flush backwards down the drain, compared to our Northern Hemisphere toilets.

I too will not be able to make it as it is a weekend and I work weekends. Even if I were to take it off, I would not be able to make it as the Explorer deal is not going to happen, so I would have to take the camper.
So are Karl and I the only ones who'll be there? I know the timing sucks, being Sunday night, but I'm going to do it...and I have a 2-1/2 hour drive to get home afterwards and still have to be at work at 6:00 AM Monday morning!
Sierraben, this is practically in your backyard...
I'm not really certain at this point, Bruce. I know he's planning to rent a car but I don't know his planned route at this point. It might have a lot to do with just how much he was able to see on his bus tour. And he might have changed his plans some over the last two weeks. I've been hoping he'd give me a call as he has my numbers, but nothing so far...
We're heading out to the resevoir<sp> on Sunday to grab a full hook up spot and "rough it" in my Dads MH through the 4th to watch the fireworks. I might take his little boat down just to put around with...anyone is welcome to come by and have a cold one, don't know how the fishing will be, but we're going to try to get two sites next to each other (for us and the neighbor) so there should be plenty of extra room for parking/day camping/extra over night/etc.
I'll cover food and drink, you just have the pay your way into the park.

More like a sideyard.
Dan, I sent you an e-mail on when and where and what time this ho-down is going to happen.
