The Ford tech tells me to use the Ford cetane additive (of course) but I didn't see anything on the bottle stating that it helps the ULSD situation. I have been using the Diesel Kleen stuff for a year. But when I used the Ford cetane boost I did notice an increase in MPG. Can or should I use both products? What are you guys running? Thanks
My current fuel of choise is B5 soybiodiesel which is 5% soyoil added to premium fuel. While we was on a recent trip we ran into areas with only #2 and I really noticed a MPG drop but when i found premium #2 it picked up almost to the soydiesel.
The Ford product is a lot of Kerosene and "other stuff".
I do not believe it is any better, or worse, than Stanadyne or PowerService.
Some brands of fuel additives claim different improvements...
1) Cetane boost
2) Lubricity
3) Less smoke (due to detane boost)
4) Injection cleaners
One fuel additive is not always like another. Whether you use Ford or not (I did and found it no better or wrose) than PowerService or Stanadyne.... you will be fine.
Some products (I think HOWES) does not contain cetane improvers... so it is less expensive... but they sell several different products... so just compare.
I have used PowerService (my personal choice due to price and availability) since day one... more for lubricity than anything!!!
If your running a 6.0L motor... duh... you are fine with any additive with either LSD or ULSD fuels. The newer 6.4L only can take ULSD and some additives have too much sulfur in them.... making them non-compliant for the newer motors (like the 6.4L). By now, most state they are either compliant or not... but you are fine with either in a 6.0L motor.

Wasn't there a thread a long while back that indicated that Ford's additive was made by Stanadyne?

Not sure, but in the last 6 months my local farm and fleet store is carrying Eagle brand diesel fuel additives (Eagle is the maker of Sta-Bil, and many others, these are labeled as Diesel Power). The Motorcraft additives I have seen are in the EXACT same shape and size bottle but with a different label. If I was a bettin' man I'd say that's where Motorcraft comes from.
I have used the Power Service in both my 04 and now my 06 with good results in both trucks. My 06 LOVES the ULSD without the Power Service so I don't use it as often as I did in the 04. About every third tank works to help keep things running smooth. I can find it at Wal-Mart and TSC so it's just a matter of when I need it to pick some up.

I know HOWES does not advertise an improvement in cetane but they garuntee an improvement in fuel economy so it must contain it.

Right... their rational is that with lubrication properties, cleaner injectors... their test data shows better fuel economy... and if they used cetane improves like other brands (which also have lubricity and cleaners)... theirs would/could even be more.
