Returning home from Fathers Day Picnic I got a flat on the dirt road from a beautiful lake in the high country. I had the wife pull over and I jumped out and promptly put the spare on.
There were two other vehicles in our party and they stopped to watch. The 15yo nephew did the dirty work of getting the sapare off/on the hanger.
3 miles down the road the 07 Ford Ranger in our party got a flat. The three rigs stopped again and we all changed the tire ont he ranger. Off we go.
3 miles down the road I get another flat. Dammit those roacks are sharp.
The third truck in our party was a Dodge, so no using it's spare. Not one F150 came out of the woods after that. Not one truck that passed was willing to sell their beer either, lol.
An hour later the wifes got back to home and called a tow truck. $130 later my truck is off to Schwabb at 8PM Sunday Night.
Anyway, I have the stock General Tires and up until now they have done well. The two punctures were not repairable, so I got a new set of Toyo Open Country 10ply. The Ranger tire was also unrepairable. Damn cheap tires.
Any others with opinion of stock General Tires.
Most expensive Fathers Day Picnic I have ever been to. Maybe another picnic is in order.
I work at a local tire shop (sears auto) and the new good year wrangler silent armors actually have the durawall technoloy as well as kevalar belts in them... might be something to look into!
Just talked to some folks who no an old timer in that area and the old timer runs 22 lbs when running back and forth from the lake. I was runninng 45lbs.
I know the rocks were sharp. but there were a number of other rigs (that passed me while I was down and didn;t even stop to offer a beer) that had no issues. Only the two Fords.
Unlce Les sold me 4 new 10-ply TOYO Open Country. We'll see how I like these.
I think you will like the Toyo's. I have them on my truck, and I am very satisfied with them. You can expect to get about 50k miles out of them. I have about 42k on mine right now. Even @ 42k the tires are very smooth riding.
Sorry I have a huge dislike for Gen's, not round, issues with lamination, IMO buy Michelins.
Three times in my life I have owned Gen’s always an issues, I had them far enough apart.... there could have been no problems because of a bad lot. Like years.
The oem General tires that ford puts on the f150 are the worst, cheapest, crap tires out there. Its probably a good thing they got punctured. Now at least you have good safe tires on the truck.
