FI Engine / drive train computer for 60 ?????

I would like to put a newer Fuel Injection engine / tranny in my 60. I know that I will have to install the computer. My question is what is a good year of donor vehicle to get this from that would make this conversion as easy as possible. I would like either a 5.0 or 5.8. Is this a hard conversion?

Prob most common would be a 302 or 351 out of a F150 or Econoline van......thats if you wanna keep it ford.....Going FI is a little more complicated than carboration, Id have a shop do the work if you are unsure of your capabilities.....

Econolines use a reverse sump oil pan/pickup tube.

The easiest swaps would be the 86-95 engines since they are OBD1. Possible donors would be F-Series, E-Series, Mustang, Mark VIII, Crown Victoria, Cougar and Thunderbird with the last three being the least reconmended since they weren't much in stock form.

I'll be going EFI on my '60 as well. I am hoping to go to a custom ECU, that way if I want to add forced induction I'll already be set up.

I have been considering an EFI setup some time in the future also. WillyB turned me on to a very nice custom system that looks like the ticket. He plans to do the same. It might also work for your transplant.

Megasquirt is good but I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner. The preassembled modules are a fair bit on money. The only downsides I see to it would be not mass air compatible, batch fired only and some setups you may not have a "tune" to modify to get your engine running.

I myself is going to use Tweecer to hack the stock Ford computer. This method still isn't the easiest route either. It is about the same cost as a complete assembled Megasquirt kit. Tweecer is set up more for mass air flow setups and only supports one speed density computer (which I have).

A megasquirt would be fun to play with, and very cheap...

I have considered the Performance Electronics ECU, I believe it is under a thousand $$ and can do sequential fire as well as has some spare inputs/outputs. I would love to have something like the Motec, but those are expensive!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with aftermarket ECUs, the Megasquirt is a do-it-yourself engine computer. There are varying levels of assembly available, if you want to solder every component to the board you can! Obviously the more assembled versions cost more.
