I have 02 explorer xlt, while rolling or going down a hill with my foot off the gas my truck seems to jerk it does not give you that smoothe ride, it seems that something is grabbing.Has this happen to anyone? or what should I be looking at.thanks
Try looking at what it does if you put it in neutral going down the same hill. This will narrow between brakes, engine, or the rest of the drive train.
while going down a hill i put it in neutral and she ran smoothly,so i guess it is the drive train. Can someone tell me a little about clutch pack in the diff.
Might also be the tranny catching gear with the engine out of it. There wouldn't be any power to make the clutches slip and smooth out the shift. Just my opinion.
I did some research and found out that that the problem is called a haning transmission. The engine does not disengage properly, anyone experianced this before,if so is it $$$or just a sensor.
I just recently had a similar problem as yours in my 00X 5.0 .. when i would coast downhill especially or into a town where the speed limit is reduced.. between 55-40mph it feels almost like its downshifting or sumthing but i know thats not it.. I checked my fluid because i had just had it flushed recently.. well needless to say they had 1 qt too much in there.. so i pulled fluid out until i got to the correct level.. My mechanic told me to try this product called "shudder fixx" made by "Dr. Tranny".. so i add this little red tube of stuff right down into the trans fluid.. I instantly noticed a big increase in the shifting.. its alot softer now, and switching gears like R to D is smoother... I feel more topend power.. and its so smooth i barely feel the shifts now.. I have yet to find out about the downhill shifting/slipping problem.. But i have a trip planned tommorow of about 100 miles... mostly twisty and up/down hill back roads.. By tommorow evening I will let ya know about whether or not it has solved this slipping problem.. as for the $7 little red tube i picked up at NAPA.. $7 trans miracles are hard to come by! I'll keep u updated!
Thanks for that info i am gonna get me some of that fluid, also i will be taking my truck to Mr.Transmission very soon to see if there is any codes showing up,I will keep you posted.
Ok well here are the results of the 100 Miles i have driven.. following the use of the "Shudder Fixx". Today all my shifts soomed smooth and the car seemed alot more responsive when i stepped on the accelerator. Only a few times did it do that thing where it felt like it was downshifting or sumthing.. When it did happen it was barely noticeable.. If it werent for me KNOWING and driving my own vehicle for a number of years.. the average driver would had thouht everything was A-OK.. But, It did happen less than before and when it happened it was very fast and didnt slam/jump.. when i stepped back on the accelerator!
So, overall i would say yes this product helped greatly.. I am hopefully that it continues to work and improve the smoothness of my shifts and also solve this trans/engine mystery.. I will try to keep posting as to the improvements.
EXPLORER GUY.. please post if any codes had popped up when u have it checked at Mr. Transmission as i would really liek to know what they have to say also!
