Hello All, You guys have been helpful in the past. I have a 1990 5.8, E40D trans that has acted up in the past 2 years during the summer but not the same problem. 1st used to get a vibration around 38mph OD Off backing off the accelerator, not all the time. Now at 48mph to 52mph with OD On it's a steady vibration when I let off the gas. This comes and goes, really drives me nuts.
The drive shaft was replaced about 2 years ago and is in good shape.
The Bronco has 154K on original drivetrain. Any ideas on what to start with, Rear?? Trans filter and flush?? She's been a real tough truck and not sure where to start.. Anyone had this problem?? Thanks
I have not had experience so I am just trying to remember what I have read. E40D is very sensitive to fluid level which ties in with summer heat expansion of the fluid. Torque converter shudder? U-joints? Plugs, wires cap and rotor? There have been many discussion on the best way to change the transmission fluid. For my next change I'm going for a filter and also drain the torque converter. I'm at 178K miles. Ford did a recall/upgrade on the E40D around 1994 which you might check on.
