Question 302 to 351

I have a 90 f150 4x4 with a 302, 4.10LS rear.... I found a junkyard 351w for $300 that runs and does not burn any oil. Im thinking about doing the swap. From what I understand it should bolt right up to my AOD, and motor mounts. But as far as the ECU goes, do they make kits for the swap? and will My AOD be able to hand the switch?

This is an EFI 351 I presume? I hope so because there are quite a few unique parts you will need for the swap, intake, fuel rail, air injection tube, possibly the accessory mounts, exhaust Y pipe, exhaust manifolds, flywheel/flexplate, and the distributor. If it's a runner you could potentially use the computer from the donor vehicle as well.. depends upon the year and powertrain combo.
My AOD is still running strong BTW.. 7+ years behind this 351 with nothing more than a shift kit.

I am looking into this swap myself. If you were to find a donor from the same year then what all would you need to take from the swap. Would it be the motor with everything attached to it like manifolds and that. Do you need to take the air box and rad components. I understand that the computer is different and if you can get it from the donor truck then take it. Should the harness be taken for the swap as well.

If the ideal donor truck is found in a salvage yard. How much does most charge to get all these items from the donor. Would it be easier just to try and buy the junked out truck all together and take it all apart yourself.

A truck from the same year with the same tranny would be ideal, then you know the computer will work in your truck with a minimum of changes. Having the whole vehicle on hand as you do the swap can be very handy, there are lots of small parts and fasteners you may break removing the motors. The induction plumbing and rads are common between 302 and 351 trucks, the only difference being with those that had mass air and the assiciated Y pipe attached to the mass air meter. A mass air 302 computer will run a stock 351 as well, so the swap is potentially easier if this is your starting point. I didn't have a donor vehicle or even a complete EFI motor for my swap, and I spent a lot of time and money running around looking for parts. I would definitely get a complete motor or a donor vehicle if I were to to this again.
