I just bought a 94' F150 with a 5.8L and it has a huge miss when just started. It almost seems like it is flooding. Once it runs about a minute it runs great. It doesn't seem to make a differance if it is cold or warm. I replaced the plugs, wires, rotor, cap. This is driving me crazy. I scanned for codes and it came up with code 31. Something about the EGR voltage. I unplugged the EGR and no differance. I disconected the battery and it cleared the code and nothing else came up after a drive. Just started it again after cooling for 1/2 hour. It has a miss again. Then went away. When it stops missing the idle goes up a little.
It may be 32 because the airbag light flashes and the horn doesn't work. I bought a fuel filter too but haven't installed it yet. I'm not 100% it is the FPR but the ticking is in that area. It isn't a cooling tick, it is loud and only does it about 10 seconds. I will check fuel pressure too. just to make sure.
I have owned many ford trucks and this is the first time I've had this happen. Could an ignition module do this?
That code is definetly clock spring, which is a very common problem for this generation of the F-Series. other than that i dont know what to tell you.... mayb fuel injectors?? try puttin that injector cleaer additive in your tank when you fill up. If that doesnt work replace all 8 of em
I put fuel injector cleaner in one of the tanks a week or so ago. It is weird because it ran great for a few days then went to **** when I first started it. I do need to replace the fuel filter though. It looks to be original.
it sounds like fuel injectors or at least one is sticking open and bleeding fuel in to the manifold after shut down. check them with a gage first to see if that is it.
I have fuel pressure in the fuel rail so I doubt it is a injector. It would leak down the pressure wouldn't it? It seems to be running decent today. I removed the ignition module from the heat sink and cleaned it up and put dielectric grease on it. That made it run good. Then I changed the fuel filter just in case. I will have to drive a bit to see if it went away.
i have a 95 F-150 and same problem got my injectors cleaned and seamed to help but not perfect i was told there is one more thing that can be replaced. It’s a sensor that acts like a choke. my truck right know seems to be flooding when you start it rough starting and idles bad at first once i get some more cash its going back in to get that sensor or what ever it is looked at sorry for not knowing the right Terminology
Is it called the fast idle solenoid or motor or something like that? I think I know what your talking about. It is running good now but it is warm out. I'll have to see when it gets colder.
