Just bought a 1994 ford turbo diesel IDI. When the wait to start light go's out it starts clicking on me. Was told I had a bad glow plug. I tested them and sure enough 1 bad. (The hardest one to get to). Relaced that plug and it started twice and started clicking again. Checked plugs again and now another one is out. So I replaced it. Started it once and now it is back to clicking again. Only 1 bad one again. I am at a loss. Do I need a new controller?
Help Please.
Another Question.
Just installed new injection pump. How do I get the timeing right. Now it is just barley right of the timeing mark on the filler neck. Knocks kind of loud when first started and then queits down when warm.
The glow plug controler will click after the glow plugs get up to temp probably 3 or 4 times. Probably what is happening is that when you put in just one it changes the resistance and the controler keeps the cycle on a little longer - then it burns out another GP that was close to going out. I always replace GP's as a set - just like spark plugs.
Not positive on your second question - someone will be along with an answer.
Sounds like the IP is about right for timing.
That is how I set mine up.
Power Stroke rattle sound when the timing advance is on with a cold engine.
No rattle when the timing advance kicks off.
What kind of glow plugs did you install?
Motorcraft/Beru ZD 9 are the ones you should have used.
