Hard Decision but need answer

Hi guys, first time to post here but anyways, on to the question, i have a chance to buy a 1990 F-150 LWB, its black, 351 unknown M, C, or W. 4spd alum. wheels, pl, pw, ps, ac, 6 inch lift 33 inch tires. He wants 1,995 for it, and i was reading the classifieds and thought it was a hell of a steel, called him up and im going to see it tomorrow. If yall dont know my truck, its an 80 F-150 Lwb 351M 4spd 32 inch tires, everything else stock, bought for 1500$$, should i try to sell my truck for more and buy the new truck or keep it, im getting 10 now, and the guy said he gets 13-20, is this true, should i get it, i think the 90's are kinda ugly but it has a grille guard or mask, hell, you can get it on w/ a girl w/ a sack over her head right, you just cant tell if shes pretty or not, thats what my dad said, so im not real worried about looks, its FE and mines carburated, so should i buy or stick with what i have, i dont know how to do a poll so ill just keep track.

I don't think the 90 is gonna get anymore than 12 mpg, especially with a 351. I've got a friend that has a 1992 with a v-8 and his is 2wd stock and he only gets 12 city and 14 highway. This truck has a 6 inch lift which really decreases the aerodynamics and the mpg, now add bigger than stock tires and the mpg really takes a dive. Did the seller compensate for the lift and tires by changing the gear. If so, the mpg may be a little closer to what he says but I still have a really hard time believing 20mpg. But hey, if you can sell your 80 for 1000 and by this one for around 2000 and its in decent shape, do it. Last peace of advice, BE CAREFULL ABOUT THE BIG STUFF (tranny, transfer case, axels, and motor bearings).

well, true, but i was thinking ask for 1500 for my truck, and see if i get that, then tell the guy w/ the 90 15, and see if i brake even, the 80 Needed all new electrical and i worked alot of hours, i think around here it should bring 15-18 hundred bucks, hopefully,

Yeah maybe 20 mpg highway maybe depending on gear ratio lift and big tires sure dont help either and 4x4s get a bit less than 2wd i know i get at least 14-16 mpg or somewhere around there in the city with some freeway driving i got the 351W all of the 87-96 trucks are 351W..

Also jd is right about the gears the mileage will be terrible im guessing if he still has stock 3.55 or 3.08 need some 4.10 or 4.30 im guessing as much as they are fun to drive they dont get the greatest mileage period maybe good mileage for a truck but nothing like a small car

is the 90 an EFI or not, not a big deal but the newer tech (comparing 80-90 anyways) will improve gas mileage. It sounds like a decent deal if u ask me...

my 91 351,3/4 ton 5spd 4x4 with 4.10s No lift on 265,s gets 15 in town and 17 hwy at 65 goes down to 14 at 80. Its bone stock too..... everythings stock lol. (it even has a cat). Course it really depends on how ya drive first and foremost. I never take anyones word on mpg cause we all drive differently

Ya, its fuel injected, thats what me and dad were waiting for but i liked the 78-80 years, and now that i have an eighty, i cant put a 460 in it b/c its got a cheese frame, so i think if he gets off work were going to go look at it, i will replace the gears w/ 4.10's or 4.30, will this make my gas mileage improve, especially since ill go to 35's, please can somebody explain why lower gearing improves gas mileage. Also will this truck be "Luggy' because of the gearing it has now, the gearing is just another thing i can jew him down on, i think i can get him to 15 or so, he said he;ll go down alot if i show him the money.......

Thanks again

Taylor

Keep the 80, much better looking truck. I don't see the sence in loosing 500 bucks for a truck thats 10 years newer, especially then the set up is SO similar. Invest that 500 bucks in your 1980.

Alright guys, went to see tonight and it was way too damn good to be true, he said 18 MPG and i kinda smirked, b/c yall told me their was no way. Also the clutch didnt leave more than 2 inches from the floor, he said the rod need adjusting, all 4 different tires were bald!!! Primer black, he said it was gloss black, i think it was primered to cover the rust, the brushgaurd only had 1 bolt in it, "Needed 4" it was straight pipe, let out underneath the cab, he needed his powerband rebuilt he said, it'l smoke em 1st three gears, didnt even power brake 2nd gear, 1st was granny low, the motor was covered in mud, the interior was trashed, no electrical worked inside the dash, said the ac was good, just needed a fuse, thats also why the locks wouldnt work, the tailgate wouldnt work, we told him it needed alot lower than 1,995 he said ill let it go for 1500, then he said, what can i let it go for, my wifes pissed that i cant sell it, and i told dad it was probably the price, so i said that truck isnt worth more than 750$$, and he said true, he needed a new trans, gears, box, interior, and everything, so he told me if he still had it in a month he'll sell it for that price, then ill just turn it into a mud truck and leave everything, except the tires, but just remember, dont burn gas when things seem to good to be true, they'll bit you in the ***
