Highboy speedometer
Ok i got the
Highboy home the other day aand just like everyone said its got a 100 mph speedometer. Now it its heyday with the FE engine and a 4spd tranny and the 4.10 gears would this thing really doo 100? And if not how much engine work do ya think itd take to get it to 100?

why would you want to get it to 100? think about it, these trucks are not made for that. the steering is crappy, theyre huge, very tall, not things that would inspire any sort of confidence at that speed.

you make a good point actually. I was just wondering if it were possible to get that big piece of steel movin that fast. Back then i would think Ford would have put the 100 speedometer on there becasue it would do it not just becasue they could.

Well, think of it like this.... After you climb that mountain in the Highboy, the speedometer could quite concevieably reach a hundred on the way down. Anyone ever heard of "Terminal Velocity"? :P

I've had my 79 250 (lowboy......well lowboy before the 6" lift) up to 90, I know that it had more in it. That was enough for me in a big, tall, brick that wasn't built for speed. I've got a cammed, 4barreled, headered, 400 in it, sitting on 35's.

with these trucks, its not so much a question of if it's possible, because i'm sure it is. i mean, why not? it's more a matter of if it's appropriate, and really, it's not under most circumstances.

I bought the highboy for a parts truck for the 4wd conversion on my 79 crew. Im planning on adding 38-40 in tires on it. Just wondered if i took it to the strip if i could get it to 100.

Well, you know you could always imitate the two "Darwin Award" winners and strap a Short Runway Takeoff Assist Rocket or two in the bed.......Ooooowee..I bet you could hit a hundred EASY. Now stopping could be a bit of a problem...
