i got a 05 ford f-25 4x4 xl diesel, when changing the fuel filters this week should i install the o-rings dry on the fuel filter caps or lube the o-rings with diesel fuel then install them in the caps? i changed my filters 8000 mi ago and did not lube the orings i did not have any problems, so what are your guys opinions on this subject?
I put just a Very very light coat of oil on them****NOT DIESEL FUEL>> DIESEL FUEL CAUSES THEM TO SWELL>>>which is partly why you get new o-rings with the filters in the first place..
You shoud always lube the o-rings so they will slide on easier and seat easier. The lube oil helps the two surfaces seal better and prevents the rubber seal from sticking to the metal surfaces.
This is why you lube the seal on a spin-on oil filter!!!
Never use diesel fuel, it is a solvent type fluid and not a "lubrication" type fluid like motor oil.
I lube my fuel filters and oil filter o-rings everytime and try to use a lot of it so they will seat the way they should.
