I've been looking at getting some electric Autometer gauges to replace the factory idiot gauges in my truck. Water Temp, Tranny temp, and Oil pressure.
Doesn't matter if Im full throttle, or idleing....the stock oil pressure gauge doesn't move a bit. Same thing goes for the temperature, whether it's the middle of July or the middle of January. I dont trust them.
Anyways, Im just wondering if the "1/8'' NPT electric sender and 3/8'' and 1/2'' NPT fittings included" will fit where they need to go on the 4.6L/4R70W, or if I will need another size fitting.
Also, if anyone has installed them on these trucks, do they replace the factory sending unit locations? (i.e.: Will the factory gauges still work once the aftermarket ones are all hooked up?)
You have to run separate sending units for the aftermarket gauges. The PCM uses the stock ones so they must also be hooked up. The oil pressure gauge is a dummy gauge, as long as there is more than 7psi to keep the light off, it will go up to the normal range and sit there. The temp gauge measures actual head temp, not coolant temp, so it will not fluctuate much. It is accurate, the head temp doesn't change as much or nearly as fast as the coolant does.
you can just put a tee in the oil pressure port to retain the stock gauge. I left the stock sender in the head I just put the new sender in the side of the block where the drain **** is. Autometer makes the special spacer needed to put the sender in the block drain.
The oil pressure sender is a b***h to get at if you have a 4X4. The water temp is very easy, there is a plenum right beside the stock unit in front of the intake.

Are you talking about the Temp. gauge? If so, where is the block drain? I dont have my manual handy at the moment. And I take it that this location measures the actual water temp and not the block temp...
I might have to take a look at the location xtrford was talking about, as it sounds much easier to get to.
And what about the tranny? Anyone have an idea on that?
I was think of one of these to tap the tranny line. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
Much better than using a splice of rubber hose and should be just as tough as the original line.
I was hoping to find a block that would connect to the existing flare fittings. No such luck yet.
