I have been trying to get my 88 for xlt f150 V8 to start for a month now. It has 40 psi fuel pressure while being ground. It also has spark. It turns over and wants to start but wont. I did the self diagnostic and got codes 21, 24, and 81. I don't think they would cause the truck not to start. I also had a mechanic check the timing. He mentioned that the plugs looked wet. I checked them and they were wet. So i tried to start the tuck with the pedal to the floor but still no luck. Any ideas? Next, I want to stop the delivery of fuel to see if it will dry my cylinders up. How do I do that? Take the ground of the high pressure pump?
I also noticed that the fuel pressure was tested while the in tank pump was unpluged and was still up to pressure. It must be dead.
Once you get the fuel issue cleared up you'll probly need new plugs too.....gas usually makes the wet ones toast.......but you probly knew that anyway.
Is the spark nice and blue? A weak coil can cause poor starting and combined with excess fuel could keep it from starting for sure. Bad wires can add to the equation also. It sure sounds like you are close if it tries!!
You may have a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator, pull the vacuum hose off and run the pumps and see if gas comes out of the vacuum nipple on top.
If it does it is bad and is causing your problem.
