so i went wheeling today and destroyed both the inner and outer shafts, drivers side, in my ttb 44 with stock spline count(30, i believe...), 4.10's and a l/s. the passenger side is fine, but i figure i'll upgrade it at the same time and keep the stock as a spare. my only problem is that i can't seem to find a chrome alloy or any type of HD shaft for this axle. i checked strange, superior, currie, and warn, but no luck. anyone know where to find something better than stock? i jest dont feel like replacing shafts all the time.
i dont have a coil front end, so i dont know what all is involved. in my head, i couldnt really imagine that swap taking much more than a weekend. i don't really know though, just speculation.
yeah, i've been reading a lot on them lately, and it's not that it takes a long time as much as it is that i don't have many days free. nothin' beats farm life in the summer....
if you have leaves already and don't mind keeping them, then the swap willbe much easier. I'd just get the axle you want, and go from there. You may need custom brake lines, a new draglink, driveshaft, etc. but that is all small stuff. If you had everything ready to go, you could do this in a day easy. If you didn't then it could be weeks.
If the shops can cut you custom length shafts then they can cut you a set of shafts you need. (warn can do this believe, along with probably most of the axle makers out there, but it will cost you some extra coin.
