I made my first road trip pulling the 25' 7100lb trailer with the family to Yellowstone</ST1lace from southern CA. My excursion developed a cough when pulling up hills. I initially thought it was what I have read the infamous "turbo fart", but it really hindered my towing performance so I am thinking it is more than just the fart.
When pulling a grade 5-12%, 50-65mph, rpm 2000-3000, Pyro 8000-1200, tranny 150-190, the turbo coughs. I get clouds of black smoke during each cough and the turbo gauge accurately reads what is going on. I tried giving it some pedal and it pins the gauge at 30 and I let off the pedal and it still coughs between 10-30 on the turbo gauge. During every cough, the turbo boost gauge jumped around up and down.
The service engine light came on and off 3 times over the 8 days on its own. I pulled the codes and it read the P132B code. I called the dealer and the tech said it was low or high turbo pressure alert. He said it could be from a slight leak. Please let me know if you have seen this before and what I can expect from the dealer. Thank you!<O</O
Do you have less than 100,000 miles? If so the engine, including the EGR and turbo are still covered under the $100 deductible warranty. My guess dirty EGR. You could pull it out and clean if necessary. I think there are directions in tht tech folder.
Update...The dealer called and they are replacing the turbo. The service advisor said that normally they just clean it up but there was a lot of rust in it. My first question is, am I going to lose my whisle? He said it will be ready tomorrow. Thanks for your feedback on this topic.
