If so, you most likely have a fuel flow (volume) issue. Tha said, Many have suggested known causes of experience. The one I have not heard yet and would suspect as well is the fuel sock in the gas tank. The truck is old enough to need it replaced. Regardless, there is some basic trouble shooting to start.
Check for flow in the easier places. Open the line at the tank and before the fuel pump. Blow it with air to check for flow to prove it is not the line between. Then go investigate the tank. Might as well drain and pull at this point. If it does not have a sock filter, put one in. Dealer. It filters and helps to draw only fuel. Limits air bubbles and blocks water.
The other unique trouble would be if the pump is failing under load. Oh, or if a rubber line is sucking shut.
-The needle may not be dropping far enough to allow full flow. Sometimes the float catches and will not fall, (Seen this with a variety of carbs catching on a splash plate)
-Needle & seat mismatch to the, not sufficiant area around the needle to to pass the fuel needed.
-Float setting not allowing the float to drop enough for flow.
This may be difficult as it may only show when the the carb is assembled. check flow in stages of assembly. A change in the sound of the air should give a pretty good indication of good bs bad flow.
