air conditioning

I have a 94 f150 I6 with 140,000 miles. I have noticed that my A/C does not get as cold as it use to, even on MAX. I have also noticed a musty, damp smell when the a/c is running. Temps have been in the low to mid 80's with average humidity. When I put a pressure gauge on the low side of the A/C it the needle goes into the "safe(blue)" area then with in 5 seconds it drops down to 0. I know the gauge is good, I put onto the a/c of another vehicle and it held fine in the blue. Do I need to add any refrigerant? Thanks.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

To properly diagnose what is exactly wrong with your system you need to get a manifold guage set so you can monitor whats going on. it sounds as if you are low on refridgerant but its hard saying. the musty smell you speak of is most likely the drain tube in the evap./heater box is plugged with dirt and debris and needs to be cleaned. afterwards pour some bleach down the cowl vent and that should cure your problem.
