Y Block Water Pump

Y Block Water Pump
OK, guy's, I'm looking for the water pump for a high mount fan that fits the later timing cover. It is the bigger pump. i already have a small pump but I used the 272/292 timing cover for the bigger pump. I need the pump with the flange for another purpose. I don't need part numbers, I already have everybody's part numbers, I need a rebuildable core. Please check your parts stash for a core I can have rebuilt. Thanks a bunch, Tom

1956 (272) 1957/64 (292)
What are you working on??
1956/64 F Series Trucks
Only one waterpump was used for ALL 1956-64 = B6C-8501-B.
Only one timing cover was used for ALL 1956-64 = C2TZ-6019-A
These are used on Ford Y blocks, NOT Lincoln Y blocks.
1955/63 272/292 Y block passenger cars use a different waterpump and timing cover (exc 55-57 T-B), than the trucks do.
Timing cover = C2AZ-6019-B
Waterpump = B6A-8501-B (inc. T-B).

For everyone that's wondering what a "High Mount" pump is,
it looks like this:
It would be the pump for a 1956 272 panel type truck that had the radiator a little higher than normal. The fan mounts on the flange on top. It moves the centerline of the fan up 4 or 5 inches .
My 55 F-600 used one with the 239 also.....albeit a slightly smaller one.
The one above is the one I have now for the 292.
Cheers,
Rick

The 1948/56 Ford Truck Parts Catalog lists one waterpump (B6C-8501-B) for 272 Y block 1956 F100/350 & F500/600 WITHOUT the 272 H/D engine.
The 272 H/D engine was NOT used in 1956 F100/350's.
There is NO reference that states anything about a radiator position on F100/350's.
>>> The 1955 239/256 Y block waterpump is the same for all models, and is also used on the >> 1956 272 Y block F500/600's with the H/D engine: B6T-8501-B. This is the HIGH MOUNT pump you are refering to. <<<
The 1954 239/256 Y block waterpump is different: EAT-8501-B

Bill,
I think the pump I have was supposed be for the 56 P500? It fits the 292. The other high mount pump that came off the 239 is smaller and will not fit the 292 timing cover.
If I used a "regular" pump the fan would not be centered on the radiator.
I suppose I could use a different radiator or shroud etc.
I don't know what my 239 came out of. I know it was a very highly modified engine. It had a 239 block number and what appeared to be 272/292 heads if that's possible. It had a cam that worked with a 14 tooth dist. It had the smaller timing cover and the smaller high mount pump.
I now have a completely rebuilt 292 from a 1960 F-100 ready to go in the F-600. I need to fabricate a front cross piece so I can install the front 2 point engine mounts.
The position of the engine & radiator is such that I need to mount the fan using the high mount pump to center the fan on the radiator.
Otherwise, I'll either have to use electric fans or lower the radiator & shroud.
This truck originally came with a 223 L6. Someone back when I was in grade school swapped it out for the severely modified 239.
Cheers,
Rick

Bill, I respect your vast knoledge of obsolete Ford part numbers. I,too, have been a counter man and also a parts manager. I was also a line mechanic and am a top notch salvage yard scrounger. First, all parts books will lie to you once in a while. Second, nothing at Ford Motor Company was ever carved in stone. Third, if you had read my first post you would have known that I said nothing about year model or truck size, only a discription of the water pump i need which I know for a fact does exist. I did not need your obsolete part numbers, I have Ford Dearborn parts books from 1932 through 1956. No disrespect intended, just correcting your misinturpitation. Thanks,Tom
