driving with my buddy last night and noticed a strange sound.
when i pressed on the gas pedal and started to accelerate, i had to let off the gas ubruptly, and it was followed by a clunk felt underneath in the rear end.
and it will do it if you take your foot off the accelerater fast/ubruptly.
he said something about the transmission and that i should take it in.
almost like you press on the gas like a couple of inches and just let it off it in the midst off changing gears/accelerating.
I'd check U joints first, then the slip yoke where the rear driveshaft exits the T-case or transmission. The slip yoke may need to be lubed (ours did). To check the U joint, just grab the driveshaft and try moving it side to side. It should not have any play. But... even if you can't move it doesn't mean it isn't causing the noise, just means it's not about to come apart on its own.
Good luck!
Definitely smacks of the slip yoke lubrication, as seen in the tech info in this section. Just check u-joints first, and follow the directions to the tee. I used the ford grease, from my local dealer, and it worked like a champ.
