trouble with c6 automatic
so ive been told. anyways, i had been having trouble with it shifting into drive.
seemed as though it would always be in 2nd. i drove it this way for a few months, thinking i was crazy about the shift, and sure enough i blew the tranny.
so i took it to a mechanic and he had it rebuilt. it came back and it was the same thing. no shift into drive .even the mechanic had no clue. so he called the tranny guy and this is what he said. ford made these trannys so that drive on the shift indicator was actually 2nd gear and 2nd gear was actually drive. so when you put the shift indicator into "D" you are actually in 2nd and when the indicator is in 2nd the tranny will go thru the gears. well the mech. thought this guy was nuts, so he called another shop and got the same answer. its true, if i put into 2nd it goes thru 1,2,D. and into D and its 1-2. this seems like bs to me.
i think the tranny guy screwed something up. this CANT be one of Fords better ideas. i know nothing about trannys and very little of everything else. can anyone out there help me with this? thanks so much
Confusing yes - until you understand it is just one of those little things that engineers do sometimes. And it is one of Ford's better ideas!

More commonly, green dot.
The first drive position was 2nd and 3rd.
The next one down had all 3 gears.
This was changed in 1967 to " select shift ".
