I now own a mint F350 4x4 CC SB V10 and wanted a new topper. So I ordered a new Leer 100XL white topper that come with the bed rail side cover and waited 4 weeks. Went and had it installed on tuesday. Looked it over but it was very dirty and sitting on the ground level. After the install I found a paint peeling on the bottom side and found lots of blems along both sides that covers the bed. Looking closer over it I found overspray on the side glass and painted scratches. This is looking like a factory 2nds.
The owner of the Leer dealer told me that he will get me a new cap and I will keep this one untill the new one arrives. Great! So I went and paid for it and had them write on the reicet that they will replace this cap with a new one due to factory defects.
I called today and the owner told me that I need to send them the cap back to look at it to see if they can repair it. Well I get stupid when I get pissed off so I let him end the conversation. Iam not the type of person that goes and make a scene. Iam too nice.
Stupid me I should have sent the cap back right there and then and not pay the balance. He has got my money and I have a crappy Leer Cap. I do have it noted that they will replace my cap with another.
I dont know why I let things like this just eat me up. Just looking for some input on how to handle this?
Call Leer up directly and see what they have to say. I would think the scratches and paint chips would be easy for a body shop to fix, maybe you can do that and have Leer pay for it.
You can not contact Leer they want you to deal with your dealer. I did send them email on my problem. Everyone who sees my cap tells me I should go for a new one and not settle for repairs. Its that bad. Iam going to make a call to the dealer and tell him what I want to happen to make it right.
If I went in to buy a new truck and they brought one out with scratches and the paint chipped....I wouldn't accept it. I understand the issue...I've had it happen before. If the dealer isn't providing satisfactory service, call the manufacturer directly.
What ever you do, document everything! Pictures are always helpful.
DO NOT ACCEPT THIS! If you do, you're rewarding bad behavour.
i think leer is very good about warranty. and they are usually really fast, ive had great service on warranty from these guys. sounds to me like your dealer sold u a used cap
Leer is telling me to send the topper back for recondioning to make it like new again. The dealer sale person wants to get me another one but not Leer. I want have a new one this one is that bad. Everone who sees it says its a factory 2nd. I looked at my buddies Leer cap smooth as glass all over. Not mine.
My guess they saw the order form for a 2003 sd thats white in color and took it as work truck so whos going to care. Not this truck it truly mint and I would like to have a nice mint new cap.
Same thing happened to me a few years ago. Bought a Glasstite top from a local dealer (color matched). 4 weeks later it came in. I dropped of the truck and picked it up later in the day, paid for it and drove off. Got it home to wash it (it was covered with dust). After the wash I noticed several dry spots in the paint (not smooth and glossy) along with some stress cracks that I could see underneath the paint along the back edge. I called the dealer and explained the issue they said no problem and did not even want to see it for themselves. They re-ordered another one and a week later it was in. They even offered to come to my office to pick up the truck so that I did not have to go to them. The second one was and still is in perfect condition. Call them and be firm but reasonable (dont yell or threaten it just forces them to become defensive and less likely to work with you). If they are a decently managed and respected shop they (and Leer) should make good on it. Ask for a new one and not a replacement, you worked hard for the money that paid for it. Good luck.
The sales guy at the dealer told me he would like to get me a new one. He said his hands are tied and cant do anything else to get me a new cap. Thats why I going right to the factory.
