Another fuel pump question

Ok guys, been reading old posts and haven't seen this one. When I switch to my front tank the voltage meter pegs -. I'm guessing the front pump is going out but the truck still runs. I don't run it like this for vary long because I know something is wrong. So I wanted other opinions before I go and change the pump and then find out it's something simple.

Sounds like you have a short to ground somewhere between the selector switch and the in-tank pump or the pump itself is shorted to ground or lock up.

Thanks Subford......question for you, if the wire is shorted before the pump would the pump still run?

Also... if its shorting out shouldn't it be blowing a fuse?

Your Hi-Pressure pump may run but not as well.

There are no fuses, only a fuse link and someone may have replaced it with a wire.

There is nothing else that is common between these two items, the voltmeter and the pump selection. What else is happening to the other items when you switch? (radio, lights and on and on)
