Any body good with diagnosing emissions problems??
First off, 82 300 w/1bbl, bored .060 over {that's a 309, right?!?} Small after market paper filter-6". Timing set @ 6' BDC, Plugs gapped at .045, idle screw 1 1/2 turns out, no air pump, cat is stock [244000+ miles on it?], MSD 6a box, Blaster 2 coil, stock distributer with stock cap and rotor.
Here are the numbers;
HC (PPM) Low Idle: 964 High Idle: 221, Limit of 400 on both
CO(%) Low:7.52 High 6.49, limit of 4.00 on both
CO(%) + CO2(%) Low: 15.74 High: 17.41
These numbers are after I "blocked" off the PCV system, the numbers dropped very, very little.
HC 976/224, CO 7.69/6.63.
As I see it, the PVC system is not the problem.
Could the problem be the timing is off?
Or maybe the plugs?
Or something in the carb, or even the cat?
REALLY need to get her passed, for this is my only vehicle right now, and I cannot afford another vehicle, or high repair bills.
Mine would not pass with 248,000 miles on the emissions parts. Found the EGR valve was toast. Got it changed and passed. And what is odd is I paid to have a new Cat installed some time previous to this only to find I got ripped and the shop only gutted the old Cat...and it passed. But even though it passed it still ran like crap until I added a Mallory HyFire 6a box and a MSD 2 Blaster Coil and new wires. I found out later that the EGR's have different size metering in them which can be changed to one or two sizes lower to effectively reduce the poor running.
