Not bad for your second post

Ah! I see you no nothing of the warranty implications and the fact that your turbo is at risk... It's overwhelming opinion in here that the stock intake is the best solution, but feel free to use whatever intake solution you wish (and prematurely end your trucks life). Welcome to FTE. This place is stuffed full of information, so stick around.
It looks like you have a 7.3L F250??

Yes the Donaldson's flow so well that they even make an aftermarket one for the 7.3 now.

The OEM Donaldson air intake flows More air than the 6.0 can use until you get to 500+RWHP. So the only benefit of any A/M air intake on a 6.0 making 500RWHP or less is a dusted turbo and warranty denial. Use all A/M air intakes at your own risk.

don't let blackhat scare you guys. An aftermarket intake system doesn't ALWAYS mean a dusted turbo. When I bought my truck it had 41k on it and now has 73k. It came with an airaid intake and who knows how long it was used before I bought it. When I purchased it the airaid filter was clean if not brand new. didn't ask. When my turbo was pulled out to have it cleaned the 7 intake impellers looked just fine with absolutely NO chips, dings, scratches or excessive carbon build up. Also, not all dealerships will void warranty if you run one. The tech that cleaned my turbo works at a dealership south of morgan hill and told me if anything comes up that he will have his service manager cover it under warranty because he knows I don't beat my truck up or race it. It's all about finding a good match. they are out there. Just to keep things on an even keel(sp) around here. lol

Well to flow more air you have to decrease the filtration ability of the filter by using larger holes in the filter media. This is a basic rule of airflow. Also dusted turbos and excessive engine wear do to increased dirt ingestion do not show up overnight. Best way to see the difference in filtration ability between OEM Donaldson system and A/M air intakes systems is by UOA, the Silicone levels will be higher with increased dirt ingestion.

As i stated before use A/M air intakes at your own risk, as there is no performance benefit to the motor, "caveat epmtor".

some of em are geting away with 98-99 percent filteration due to the fact the filter is HUGE and has alot of surface area....

Is the filter bigger and have more surface area than the OEM Donaldson. The only way to increase airflow and maintain filtration is to increase the size of the filter area. All of the A/M air filters i have seen for the 6.0 use the same size filter box & filter as the OEM Donaldson system, the A/M air filters are not increase surface area in comparison to the OEM Donaldson system.

Also if the OEM Donaldson system flows more air than the 6.0 can use until you reach 500+RWHP what is the benefit of and A/M air intake?

The guys racing them have found no benefit in an A/M air intake until they reach 500+RWHP.

I like it because it flows more air and makes my turbo sound louder aka more whistle. sole reason I use it. and in theory it should help with mpg's. but ehh'.

Back to the original question, the hose is a secondary inlet in case the primary filter inlet is plugged, most likely by snow ingestion (which is an actual test run when developing a new vehicle).

Not sure how this ended up a discussion of air filters.

Well the thread was about the air filter assembly, it got off on air filter elements in post #18 by newbie "topnc".

And yes the secondary inlet question and use was answered in the first few posts, look at post #6 by the BBC, for specific reference to secondary air inlet.
