I need to replace the gear (affixed to the motor) that operates the driver window regulator on my 1991 F150. I found a gear replacement kit that appears to be what I need, but when I took the gear off my motor there appeared to be a bearing or something else that had disintegrated and was in small pieces under the nylon gear. Does anyone have an exploded parts manual or a picture that shows just how this gear goes back together?? My motor is operating fine and I hate to have to buy any entire motor when a replacement gear would fix it.
Thanks Josh, I am referring to the nylon gear with the metal gear that fits inside it and both attached to the end of the power window motor. When I removed the plate that holds the gears inside a bed of grease, there were several bits of what appeared to be nylon shards. None any larger than a pea, and so ground up that I could not start to arrange them to see what they might have looked like initially.
Did these bits of nylon start out life as bushings?? If so, what did they look like. All I can find as replacement parts are the metal gear (approx 1 1/2" dia) and nylon gear (approx 2" dia) and they are sold as a "kit".
I had the same problem a while back. None of the major part stores in my town had the little bushings, but some no name place had some. the windows work great now and it saved me a ton. they look like little cylinders, and mine were sorta clear... they were decently easy to replace. im pretty sure there were 3 of them.
Not necessarily. I would want to make sure my switch was feeding the motor.
My power door actuator did not work on the driver's side. I took a small test light with a sharp probe, found a ground for the clip and then alternated piercing the wires going from the switch to the motor while switching the door lock switch in both directions. One wire is up and the other is down and the test lamp lit up on both wires.
I am not sure if this will work on the window motor or not, but if the feed from the switch to the motor is "hot" or positive, then it will accurately measure the performance of your switch. Of course you can take the switch out and test it with an ohm meter, but this does not tell you if the switch is actually feeding power to the motor.
That broken nylon is a clutch mechanism, 100% failure rate item. The ebay picture from Conanski is for some replacement parts that will lock the drive up solid. They are NOT the parts that crumbled.
You can replace the clutch mechanism with a part from the parts store which will require cleaning out the chamber and replacing the entire part. You can also clean all the broken nylon out of the mechanism and insert the three expensive rollers from ebay, or you can insert three 10MM or 3/8" dia ball bearings available for cheap at a hardware store. The rollers or ball bearings will lock the drive mechanism with no clutch so watch your fingers. Whatever you do after you have everything cleaned out lubricate the mechanism with synthetic brake grease or similar product. Remember the broken plastic will be packed into every corner of the mechanism.
Bought a gear kit at Advance for $18.00. It has the nylon and metal gear with the small nylon cylinders, plus a new cover with gasket and grease. Now works great. Thanks everyone.
