Help Staying Hydrated
You body works on something called the sodium/potassium pump. When an electrical signal is sent down the muscle fiber it will cause a depolarization of the nerve in which the sodium and potassium ions switch places. If you have too much sodium then you will cramp-up and the same is true if you have too much potassium (Very unlikely).
Watch the amount of sodium you ingest in a day, because it is a diuretic and thus will cause you to excrete more water.
Endurox R4 is a technologically advanced sports drink based on this new model. In three clinical trials the researchers found, compared to Gatorade, Endurox R4: Enhanced performance and extended endurance by 55% Reduced free radical buildup by 69% Increased muscle glycogen replenishment by 220% Reduced post exercise muscle damage by 36% The patented Endurox R4 formula includes electrolytes, high glycemic carbohydrates and whey protein in a 4:1 ratio (Optimal Recovery Ratio), arginine, antioxidant vitamins E and C, glutamine, branched chain amino acids and the natural herb, ciwujia. Endurox R4 is a total nutritional approach to muscle performance and recovery because it is specifically designed to: Restore electrolytes and water. Replenish glycogen stores rapidly. Reduce muscle and oxidative stress. Rebuild muscle protein. The results of the clinical trials provide powerful support that Endurox R4, by improving muscle performance and enhancing recovery, should be the product of choice for any athlete engaged in aerobic activities such as running, biking or swimming or team sports such as basketball, football or soccer.

mix a cooler of water and a little bit of ice and a bottle of cheap cologne. this will cause your pours to open and cool you off fast. at school we called it florida water... it works good. just soak a rag in it, wipe your arms your head, neck, and face and your good to go.
A banana and an apple during the day help, too, and I've found I can recover better from a strenuous day if I drink a whey protein mixture here and there, like one at lunch and one at the end of the day.

I tried washing my arms/neck/face in cool water and felt great, I'll deff. keep doing that. Also I'll be drinking more water while I'm resting in the evening/morning.
I've never heard of a cooler bandana that welders wear. what is that and where do you go about getting one? Grainger or Fastenal maybe?
I do have plenty of regular bandanas I used to soak and wear around my neck backpacking.
jgc do you end of smelling like cologne all day? I guess it's better than how I smell though.
thanks

Aztrainer: "Watch the amount of sodium you ingest in a day, because it is a diuretic and thus will cause you to excrete more water."
I did wake up pretty loose this morning. I'll dilute the gatorade a little more tomorrow and try that.

If you have a lot of bandanas you can do this as a little trick I do for the start of football season here in hell err.....Arizona with 110 degrees. Get a small cooler and put ice then bandanas and put water. Let it sit for a little while and put one on the back of your neck over the carotid artery. Change them out every thirty to forty minutes and put the old one back into the cooler. This is a trick that will keep you surprisingly cool in very hot temperatures.

I hate to say it Gatorade is only …..at best…. half of what you need. Might be hard to believe but few athletes ever drink Gatorade. I am talking endurance type athletes or competing at a very high level of competition.
The problems becomes when people only add sodium, you need all five substances to balance hydration, when you get all supplied you will never have cramps, or be dehydrated. The good thing is it helps digestion and stomach/intestinal cramps also, a precursor that takes place LONG before muscle cramps show their ugly face. Most right it off to bad Taco bell.
Trust me I have a team of doctors and a coach that has taken a ton of data off me to figure all this out.....
Use the R4 all the time not just to re-hydrate....that is where we have learned so much.....pre balance saves …………
I wouldn't recommend wearing perfume/colgne to anyone in the southern woods unless you like getting eaten or attacked by yellow jackets.
A -moderate- amount of salt helps me, especially since I usually do not eat much while working, but, still lose 2-3 pounds sweating. Someone said eating pickles would help, they do. I think it is all the salt though I admit not knowing what all that vinegar does combined with the corn syrup most pickles have...
Endurox R4 sounds good though I would have to see what the roots and stuff like arginine and Ciwujia are.
Pickels have sodium in them and thus they make you feel better and there is a item called "Pickle Juice" that is being touted as a replacement for poweraide and gatoraide

I went to my physician for a regular checkup during that time period and they thought something was wrong with me because my electroylte level was SO high.
I then told them about the GATORADE consumption and that eased their (and my) minds.
Just the heat from the water will start breaking down the solids, so they mix better. (Goes for any powdered drink mix, like Nestea; Lipton's, etc.)
I've found that eating a small portion of fruit (1/2 banana or 1/2 an apple, or 4 or 5 strawberries) helps a LOT when I'm really thirsty, along with the gatorade or drink water with LIME squeezed into it.
Another trick instead of cheap cologne(s), etc., is to use Isopropyl alcohol and water mixed, and rub this on your arms and neck.
The Isopropyl makes the water "Wetter" (printer's trick) and will also help open the pores to let heat escape and to cool your body down.
(Necessary caution- - - - do NOT injest the water/alcohol mix!!!)
Also, a rub down with 'Sea Breeze' will help to cool down your body.
