if you call Hawk, like I did, they'll tell you not to use the Superduty compound.
LTS is the compound you want, whether you're towing or not. FWIW, I'm running LTS and compared to OEM pads, well, there's simply no comparison.
One stops and one eventually stops.
I've been purchasing from the same vendor before I came to this board. Otherwise I'd purchase from the forum sponsor.
You will not be disappointed w/ those pads. Just make sure you bed them in as recommended otherwise you will not get the full benefits...
Im loking for new pads too, whatever junk is on my truck dusts HEAVILY and takes much too long to stop in my opinion. Hawk seems to have a good reputation.
The Hawk representative that I'd talked to told me that the Superduty compound is really more for fleet trucks, think U-Haul or the like. The LTS (Light Truck) compound is supposedly relatively newer, very similar to the HPS compound and will replace the HPS for the light truck applications. I have used Hawk pads for years; HPS, LTS, HP+,
Black, Blue on all types of vehicles (my last really big order for Hawk pads was over $1000!!!). Pads are the cheapest and prob the best upgrade.
But if you're concerned about brake dust, then you might have to look elsewhere. Hawk pads typically dust same or more than oem pads. You might want to look into ceramic pads for less dust. I haven't tried ceramics yet. Dust doesn't bother me, I'd take shorter braking distance over dust.
I hear ceramics are a terrible idea for heavy vehicles. I guess with the weight we are stopping we would go through the pads liek nothing and not stop too well either.
Whatever pads are on my truck now i can go maybe 2-300 miles and my front rims are filthy already.
I clean my front rims like every two days to keep the dust off. Sometimes it gets old though. Dono what to choose. Less break dust or more breaking power? So it is true that ceramics dont break as well?
Not sure if they brake the same, i have been tolod by numerous people that we would tear through them like crazy in these heavy trucks though. They would be worn out befor eyou knew it i guess.
Believe it or not PepBoys sells Hawk LTS pads and they are incredible! They were $78 for the fronts and $68 for the rears. It took a couple of days for them to bring them in from their warehouse.
