Almost ready to install a chip.
I've just put in a K&N filter (stock replacement) and just ordered a Western Motor Sports Velocity tube (like a K&N Filter Injection only better from what I hear). I have a 2000 F150 5.4 litre Lariat (17" tires) 4x4 with Traction Lok rear end.
I won't be doing a lot of heavy pulling...just a tent trailer with a canoe on top on occasion. I'm looking more toward better fuel mileage, performance and effeciency. Is it true that the mileage I might gain will offset the price of having to use 92 octane? Will it be ok to use gas with ethanol in it? I use ethanol gas usually but sometimes can't. Would I need the Delta Diablo? Whats the cheapest way to go for a chip? Can I get by with a basic Diablo and still use ethanol fuel on occasion without needing re-programming? Lots of dumb questions I know. But I want the best bang for my buck. If I added a better exhaust down the road would I need to have it re-programmed and at what cost?
I'm the kind of guy who absolutely hates to spend money on things I don't know much about. As for my pickup, I bought it new and paid cash. I only want whats right for it.
Thanks,
DC Larson

In most cases, yes. It depends alot on your driving style.

So long as the octane rating is correct.

The Delta isn't any different from any other Diablo chip. It uses the same codes as the standard Diablo.... and the Delta still isn't out.

Buy a used one and find a chip dealer to reprogram it for a fee. Good luck finding a used one, people tend to hang on to them.

See above. Ethonal doesn't matter, octane does.

No.

I strongly suggest you read the frequently asked questions page I wrote about Superchips and Diablo chips. Go to the online store here, then to either chip section. They both have a link to the FAQ.
