hope everybody knows that a orfice tube is in order with ac work nowdays they have a varible that works real good help with ole bessy here in the land of the sun hot sun to
I converted my 1993 to R134a 2 years ago, flushed the system, stock condenser, replaced the compressor, accumulator and installed a R134a orifice tube, I played around with the freon level for about 2 hours, and found that in my conditions at the time-108 deg 6 percent humidity my best preformance was with 2.25# freon. At 1500 rpm my vent temp (standing still) was 52 deg, going down the road it reached 38 deg. I added/recovered freon at 2 oz increments to achieve this result. At idle speeds-stop lights in town the temp climbs to 58 deg at 110 ambient. I installed a mister system in front of the condenser/radiator to combat this problem. If I'm doing a lot of in town driving I fire it up and keep the vent temp to below 50 deg. Road travel unless I'm towing in the mountains does not need the extra cooling this brings. The only other solution I can think of that might work is an electric fan mounted in front of the condenser to be used for this purpose only, it wont push enough air to overcome the fan clutch operation I wouldnt think. The mister was cheaper and works pretty good.
I just got er done this week, What a difference 40 deg at the vents 35 psi lo 220 psi hi @100f ambient.
I used ~38 oz R134a + 6oz PAG 100. Thanks for the replys as i am still learning my way around this truck.
Still some questions, the port adapters both leak (chinese junk) so I had to get the caps on quick so they will have to be replaced what is the best to use preff the brass type with a built in shrader valve, any idea where to get these?
Has anyone had any luck with condenser fans, maybe a pair of 8 or 10 inch ones and what control system? on with the ac clutch or maybe on with the parking brake + ac clutch?
Yes I do use the parking brake when I stop that is how I learnt to drive back in England. None of that "when daddy let me drive" nonsense.
When I put the ac in my truck, my shop buddy ordered me a retrofit condensor for 134a it was resonable and cools almost as good as an r 12 truck, variable orifice is the real ticket.
