I have a guy I work with that tells me he has a friend (I know we have all heard that story) that has a Lincoln with a 429 police interceptor in it with a c-6. Is this a rare engine and how would you be able to tell if it is indeed what he says it is. just curious thanks Scott

Scott,
If the 429PI motor was transplanted into the 1969 Lincoln, then I suppose it's certainly possible.
But if he says it's original, then it's nothing short of BS. 1969 Lincolns came with 460s, not 429s. Also, in 1969 the PI motor was an FE-series 390 and not a 385-series 429 or 460.
The most common cylinder head casting numbers for the 1972-up 429PI motors would be D2OE-AB, and this number may be located on the outside of the cylinder heads, along the valve cover mounting rail and between the 3rd and 4th exhaust ports.
In 1966 thru 1969 there was a 428PI motor, there was also a 390PI, but only a city cop would want that. I wish I had a buck for every PI motor I've seen, they must of made more of them than the 2 barrel motors.
